The Tale of Didel and the Journey of the Night
Part 1
The night has fallen on the land and thus, our tale begins
A tale of fright and passion, of warriors and their whims
Of fiercest demons, dark and bold, who penetrate the skin
And battles which the warrior wages, outside and within
Didel is our tale's hero, being strong and bold
And through the journey which he takes, he grows from young to old
But age is not what strikes the man, experience he seeks
That which will expand his mind and vanquish what is meek
.
Didel is the youngest warrior in his warrior clan
And must begin a journey to prove he is a man
On an eve of celebration, Didel leaves his land
He holds with him no weapon, no substance in his hand
The stars provide such brightness as they guide him on his way
Though the night is pleasant, Didel wants to stay
The warrior knows what he must do and walks into the night
He knows not what it holds for him as he saunters on in fright
.
With the tribe, he ate his fill and does not stop to rest
The more he waits to think his thoughts, the longer is his quest
Strangest noises in the trees as Didel strays from camp
What evil lurks beyond his sight, a wyvern or a vamp?
He rounds each corner with great care, but nothing meets his gaze
The suddenly, a ghostly shape soon permeates the haze
Then air is chilled and on his flesh, the bumps begin to rise
This lone creature in the night corrupts his weary eyes
.
Didel freezes in his tracks, his heart pounds through his chest
Weaponless, he cannot fight, afraid he is at best
Though the night is chilly, Didel breaks a sweat
Has his journey met its end? In silence, warriors wept
As he stares into the night, his enemy has froze
The thought that maybe it feared him helped his courage grow
He proceeds with every caution, his foe won't make a move
Something now has caught his eye, a dimple or a groove
He approaches quietly and sees the monster's face
Carved into a block of wood with unfettered grace
Hair produced by forest vines made the warrior smile
He knew he wouldn't meet his fate after but a mile
A note clenched in the monster's hand caught the warrior's sight
The note is written by his hand, as Didel shrieks in fright
"Your journey is not over, I am watching you..."
Didel then replaced the note, his fear begins anew
